Yes, you have it right. Biden is another HRC in too many ways.

1. Both voted for the wildly unpopular Iraq war. There are still a lot of antiwar Democrats.

2. Both backed NAFTA. Economists disagree about NAFTA's effects but the point is that lots of jobless Americans in the rustbelt blame the trade deal for at least part of their woes. Blue collar workers were once a key part of the Democratic coalition.

3. Both supported the 1994 crime bill, which is wildly unpopular with African Americans, a key Democratic constituency.

Both times, the party picked candidates who had alienated the SAME important parts of the Democratic coalition.

I have asked myself how the power brokers in the party could be so stupid.

The only thing Biden has going for him is that he's NOT Donald Trump. Really, that's not a whole lot.
