Yes. That is one reason why a hard copy is so important — being able to follow up with comments. The other is that people tend to skim when they read on the internet. That is why if I really want to understand something, I get a hard copy.

Alas, the university library I use has most of its journal articles on line. The older articles have hard copy in the stacks but the newer ones don’t.

This procedure saves money for the library but makes it harder to do quality research.
