A Harvard professor whose last name is Putnam, did research on the downside of diversity. In short, the greater the diversity, the fewer people vote, the less they give to charity, and the less time they spend volunteering for civic projects.

I wonder how many of Tim Wise's opinions he would change if multiple examples of *excellent, peer-reviewed research* substantiated Putnam's claims that civic participation declines in culturally mixed communities.

My guess is that he would exercise confirmation bias and ignore the studies.

( FWIW, I have lived happily in multicultural neighborhoods for decades. I also believe the divide, which is small already, between Hispanic and non-Hispanic Americans will disappear in a generation or two just like it did for Irish and Italian immigrants. In fact, I am sure that many people never noticed the "divide" until it became a campaign issue.)
