Yes. I recently corresponded with the adult son of a man who was quite well known--just shy of famous--in the evangelical world.

He is over 80 now and said he could never shake the sense of dread he acquired over his father's frequent and humiliating physical punishments. He mentions that his sisters also feel damaged by it.

Nearly every parent has the occasional bad moment and hits the kids. But it one is thing to make an understandable and forgivable mistake and another thing to turn it into a religious precept.
