In 2016, I was in an environment with many people connected in some way to the US military. Almost all of them *despised * Hillary Clinton for the deaths of US personnel in Libya. They believed--and I don't know if their beliefs are accurate--that Clinton bungled the problem and then lied about it.
They were willing to ignore some other odious stuff about Trump and vote for him because they thought he would not make the kinds of mistakes that Clinton made.
One theme of Trump's 2016 and 2020 campaigns was ending our endless wars and bringing our troops home.
In other words, many Trump voters liked him because they thought he was less likely to kill people.
What exactly is stupid, racist, or morally repugnant about that? Nothing.
In my opinion, the American left looks down on Trump voters because they fail to realize that it is the white working class that makes the largest sacrifices during war.
Clinton, although there are many excellent things about her, is a war hawk. Trump is not.
