I am in strong agreement with you.

If I had had my way in 2016, James Webb, an early candidate who failed to gain traction, would have been elected, with Bernie Sanders a second choice.

In other words, I am not a natural Trump supporter.

But the hysteria about Trump rests on two things:

1. Underestimating the harm done by other presidents. For example, Haitian migrants to the US were locked up in the Krome Avenue Detention Center, opened under Reagan, where there were reports of beatings, rapes, women being forced to clean toilets with their bare hands because "you all have AIDS anyway." Children were "relocated to another facility," whatever that means. The Haitians endured this policy under multiple US administration, both Republican and Democrat, with limited press coverage.

I voted for Obama and have a high regard for him on most issues, but he deported 3 million economic migrants, which means that he must have detained whole families--kids in cages.

As much as I abhorred Donald Trump's treatment of migrants, it was not that different from that of previous presidents.

2. Downplaying his good points such as his disinclination to start wars. Trump did far less harm to the world than Bush-Cheney, whose criminal invasion of Iraq led to 800,000 orphans, at least--kids who will never see their parents again. Far worse than what Trump did.

Incidentally, working class white males are disproportionately likely to be injured or killed in combat. By ignoring this fact, the media can paint Trump supporters as a bunch of racist morons.

In fact, lots of them just don't want their kids to get killed.

Also, while economist disagree among themselves, a number of reputable economists do believe that NAFTA and immigration do in fact harm the American working class. So, Trump may have a point there, too.
