An article in Consumer Reports states that after controlling for vehicle size and type of crash, women are still more likely to sustain certain types of injuries:
When controlling for vehicle type, vehicle size, and crash type, IIHS researchers found that women were twice as likely as men to be moderately injured and a bit more likely to be seriously hurt in a crash—especially in regard to leg injuries—but that other disparities faded.
However, most of the disparity in injury rates seems to come from the fact that women drive smaller vehicles and are more likely to be in the car that was struck.
