A lot of fundamentalist Christian homes can be genuinely abusive. Look at Pat Boone's daughters, two of whom wrote hair-raising books about their childhoods. I occasionally correspond with adults raised in such homes who tell me that they have a life-long sense of dread because of the harshness of their parents.

On the other hand, none of them wants to commit genocide against Arabs, including children.

It sounds like your father was as emotionally abusive to you as many fundamentalist Christians.

He left the religion but not many of the lessons he learned about how to treat children. How sad.
